Now the thought that pops up into the mind is what is the difference between milk allergy and lactose intolerance! 

Well, we all know about a milk allergy, but lactose intolerance takes place when an individual is unable to fully digest the sugar (lactose) present in milk. As a result, they suffer from diarrhea, gas, bloating, etc. after eating or drinking dairy products that are high in lactose content. This is a condition, which is also known as lactose malabsorption. It is harmless; however, its symptoms can be very uncomfortable. 

Explaining it in more medical terms means that when lactose is consumed, it is hydrolyzed into glucose and galactose by lactase enzymes found in the small intestinal brush border. A deficiency of lactase due to either primary or secondary reasons can result in clinical symptoms. 

Now for cow milk allergy. This type of allergy is found mostly in babies and young children. Most children outgrow cow milk allergy; however, some children are unable to do so. 

Did you know? Cow milk allergy is said to be one of the eight foods that are responsible for 90% of food allergies! Surprised, right? The other foods that cause allergy are:

  • Eggs, 
  • Peanuts,
  • Tree Nuts, 
  • Soy,
  • Fish,
  • Shellfish, and 
  • Wheat. 

Camel Milk has been known to be consumed by lactose intolerance for ages! It contains fat, cholesterol, and the lactose level is lower in camel milk as compared to bovine milk. The minerals in Camel Milk, such as Calcium, Magnesium, iron, Copper, Zinc, and Vitamin C and A are greater than bovine milk. 

Camel Milk for Lactose Intolerance: 

Well, we never thought there would be a dairy product that would be perfect for lactose intolerants! Surprisingly, there is, and it is called Camel Milk! 

There have been certain studies to prove this. One of them was conducted on 25 patients with lactose intolerance who consumed camel milk and showed positive results. This proved that camel milk was an option for them as it is easily digestible. This is because it contains a higher concentration of L-Lactate, which compared to cow milk is higher, as cow milk contains D-Lactate (which is produced by a bacteria present in the colon when your carbohydrates are not completely absorbed by the small intestine. An increased amount of D-Lactate can cause altered mental state, metabolic acidosis, etc.) 

To further explain it, the protein called beta-lactoglobulin is present in cow milk and other forms of milk, which is responsible for allergies in humans. However, camel milk lacks this protein, and thus, cannot cause the problem of allergies in a sensitive individual.

Now, the beta-casein present in cow milk causes hypersensitivity in humans. Even though camel milk contains beta-casein, its structure is very different from that of cow milk protein. Experts state that children with severe milk allergies significantly improved with camel milk. They further stated that as camel milk does not contain immunological similarities to that of cow milk, it can be considered a significant criterion from a clinical point of view.

A factor that makes camel milk so special in terms of lactose intolerance is that it contains a similar amount of immunoglobulins to that of mother’s milk, which helps reduce the allergic reactions among children, and helps strengthen their ability to consume different types of food in the future.

With the amount of research being conducted and that had been conducted, we can conclude that Camel Milk is good for lactose or dairy intolerance. Whether it is consumed in the form of milk, ice cream, chocolates, etc. camel milk is not known to cause any allergies as such.
